Daughters of the King Elect a new board

Over 70 members of The Order of the Daughters of the King® from across the diocese gathered at the Bosque Center on August 3 and 4. They conducted business of the Order, including the election of new officers for the next three years. The new officers were installed as part of the closing Eucharist of the Assembly by Diocesan Chaplain, Mother Jan Hosea. Congratulations to these faithful women for hearing God’s call on their hearts and stepping up to be leaders.

The keynote speaker for the Assembly was Deborah Smith Douglas. She spoke on Deepening Prayer. Several women who are not Daughters joined the group for the talks and retreat portion of the event on Saturday. We filled the conference room at the Bosque Center with almost 100 women. Douglas reminded attendees that we pray in the company of all the women who have gone before. These include women of the Bible, the church, those who taught us and continue to teach us. As women of prayer, we are not ever alone. Douglas also encouraged the women to have a ‘disposition of gratitude’ in prayer. She also noted that intercession is more than a list of demands and wishes. It is a practice of carrying the needs of others to the heart of God. In her sermon, Douglas concluded by noting that we are called to be deep in wonder and full of joy so that love becomes prayer.
